The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected engineering service provider with a long-standing heritage in machine tool manufacturing and support. The business has evolved into a specialist service and spares organisation, supporting a diverse customer base across the UK and internationally.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Multi-Skilled Field Service Engineer (mechanically biased) to join a close-knit, customer-focused team during an exciting period of growth and investment.


The Role

Based in West Yorkshire, this is a field-based role involving travel across the UK (typically between South Wales and the Scottish border), with occasional international assignments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Installation, servicing, and maintenance of large CNC and manual machine tools

  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults on complex machinery

  • Carrying out machine alignment and gearbox assembly, including bevel gear setting

  • Supporting customers across a range of environments, from small workshops to large global manufacturers

  • Representing the business professionally on-site, delivering a high standard of customer service

  • Identifying opportunities for additional service work, spares, or contracts

  • Ensuring compliance with all health & safety regulations

  • Working independently or collaboratively within a small engineering team

About You

We are looking for a motivated and adaptable engineer with strong mechanical expertise and a customer-first mindset.

You will:

  • Have proven experience working with large machine tools (CNC and manual)

  • Be comfortable working at height (ladders, platforms) and in confined spaces (machine pits)

  • Be confident working independently on customer sites

  • Have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Be organised with effective time management

  • Be willing to travel and stay away from home when required (including occasional weekends)

  • Be a team player with a positive, “can-do” attitude and willingness to learn


Skills & Experience

  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship (preferred)

  • NVQ (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline (preferred)

  • Strong experience in:

    • Mechanical fitting and fault diagnosis

    • Machine tool alignment (essential)

    • Gearbox and machining head assembly (essential)

    • Reading mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics

  • Basic electrical and hydraulic knowledge

  • Electrical fault finding (desirable)

  • Hand scraping experience for geometric adjustment (desirable)

  • Good IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)

  • Full UK driving licence (clean preferred)


Additional Information

  • UK travel is a core part of the role, with occasional overseas travel (typically 2–3 weeks at a time)

  • Engineers may be required to stay away from home depending on job location

  • Training will be provided where required, particularly in relation to health & safety
